The legendary Aosta-Becca di Nona is back, after 4 years of hibernation, in the version of only ascent, accompanied by a spectacular day, as if the weather had to be forgiven the last two editions of 2011 and 2012 ran in the rain and snow. Also this on the merits of the organizers, the Becca di Nona 3142 Association and the municipality of Charvensod, with Laurent Chuc and Loris Carrara the soul and heart of this rebirth, which was celebrated for a long time at the intermediate finish line of Comboè, where the band played at the passage of the uphill competitors, and continued until the afternoon when returning down from the summit.
But the Becca di Nona 2016 was not only a party and popular participation, but also a tough race for climbers, 2500 meters of altitude difference in 13 km, with important competitive results, starting with the winner and the podium of the day.
And’ Massimo Farcoz of Pont Saint Martin, two-time Italian Champion of Vertical Km Under23, the new "king" of Becca di Nona, who imposes himself with a great performance and signs the time of 1h54'26", which is the new record of ascent to becca di Nona, surpassing the previous record of 1h55'33" by Daniel Yeuilla in 2009. Then two considerations must be made for this record, since the best climb was made by Jean Pellissier in 2005 in 1h53′ and change, but he did the ascent and descent race, and today's course was for the first longer than 2-3 minutes, to bring the race track to the intermediate finish of Comboè at about 2122 meters above altitude. Figures that serve the statistics, but also to better understand the athletic achievement of the winner, that after passing Comboè together with his escape companions, the French Jean-François Philippot and Nadir Maguet, in the Gran Sex area at an altitude of 2609 meters begins an unstoppable progression and goes to win with an advantage of almost 5 minutes on the second, the French Philippot who only yesterday won the French Vertical Km Championship and last Friday in Val d'Isere had stao 5th in world cup, and here runs the Becca in 1h59'22": chapeau! Nadir Maguet, Torgnon's talent for ski mountaineering and skyrunning, winner of the Espoir World Cup of ski mountaineering and only 7 days ago of the Cervinia skyrace, 3rd place in 2h01’02" for him. Fabio Bazzana 4th in 2h01'33", Giovanni Bosio 5th in 2h05’01", Pierre-Yves Oddone 6th in 2h06'42", Stefano Stradelli 7th in 2h09'24", Luca Gronchi 8th in 2h10'21", Alessandro Plater 9th in 2h10'48" and Henri Grosjacques 10th in 2h11'53". At Marco Bethaz the Master Over50 ranking, followed on the podium by Ezio Sardanapoli 2nd and Roberto Maguet 3rd.
Contested to the last breath in the women's race, where the Canavesana Chiara Giovando of ASD Campo in 2h27'42" appears, to the second major success in Valle d'Aosta after the Vertical of Fenis, who puts behind him athletes who have written the history of skyrunning, starting with Christiane Nex 2a in 2h28'39", the French Corinne Favre 3a in 2h29'35", Gloriana Pellissier 4a in 2h32'49" and Alma Rrika 5a in 2h35'44". Flavia Giovara wins the Master-Over50 ranking on Claudia Titolo.
News of this rebirth of the Aosta-Becca di Nona was the Aosta-Comboè race that takes second place to the "Becca", but that in 9 km proposes 1500 meters of altitude difference, therefore a "garone" also this. Matteo Savin won in 1h17'35", savino Quendoz 2nd in 1h18'49" and Fabrizio Cheillon 3rd in 1h21’03". Fourth at the finish line was national team cross-country cross-country finisher François Vierin who won the flying finish line of Charvensod (organizing country of the reborn Aosta-Becca di Nona), as did Gloriana Pellissier among the women.
In the women's race victory of army holist Elisa Brocard in 1h29'11", which incidentally in 2009 sealed the women's record of Aosta-Becca di Nona in 2h14′, followed on the podium by Giulia Collavo 2a in 1h35'44" and Valeria Poli 3a in 1h41'28".
The declarations
Massimo Farcoz the winner: "I am happy and surprised by this victory. I usually run races that last an hour, today for me’ it was all a discovery. I was with Maguet and Philippot all the way to Comboè, then stretched to the top of the route and felt good at high altitude. Now I hope to figure well at the next Italian Championships in Cortina and then I will race the Ivrea Mombarone in combination with today's race."
Chiara Giovando the winner: "The other girls started very strong, I was a little’ behind, maybe fourth in Comboè, but from then on I felt comfortable on that ground and at altitude and I recovered. When I reached Christiane Nex and passed in front, I realized That I was in the lead and then I gave everything to the finish line at the top of the Becca. I think it is my greatest competitive satisfaction, I raced it especially for the combined with the next Ivrea-Mombarone, but I discovered a beautiful mountain and an incredible organization."
Laurent Chuc the organizer: "I thank all the volunteers and all the people who helped us revive this race that had been missing for a few years. And’ the race symbol of the Aostani, but we received requests from all over Italy and we had to close the registrations on Monday to 500 athletes, which is still an Italian record of participation for a Vertical race. Congratulations to all the athletes who came to run on the trails of our mountain and goodbye to everyone in 2018."
